The proposed identity draws inspiration from the New York City subway — a system that connects millions of people daily, regardless of background, belief, or identity. Translating that metaphor into design, the logo’s interwoven lines symbolize connection, unity, and movement, while the rainbow palette anchors the work in Pride’s universal message of love and visibility.
Though the concept was not ultimately selected, it aimed to position NYC Pride as a dynamic expression of the city’s diversity — an ever-moving, ever-connecting celebration of love in all its forms.
Inspiration
New York’s subway lines are all interconnected yet individual. Each one a different color yet of the same network. It supports millions of people forging their own path, always moving. Like life, it’s a shared experience. Social. Connected. We all move together, in the same direction. Parallel with each other.The celebration culminates with the Pride March through New York. All New York together. Not just gays. Not just lesbians. Not just transgender, queer, intersex, asexual or straight. Not just any particular group or individual. Everybody walks together. This inclusiveness and diversity is our source of pride. That’s why New Yorkers walk with purpose. That’s why New Yorkers walk with their head held high.
